Hand-blended in Melbourne, Australia, our cacao combines raw Amazonian beans with nourishing, plant-based wholefoods, creating a delicious and intentional drinking experience that supports wellness and sustainability.

Our mission is rooted in respect for the land and the people who have cared for cacao for generations, particularly the Ashaninka, one of the oldest Indigenous tribes of South America.

Meet The Ashaninka
In August 2019, we set out on a journey that would change the course of Sacred Taste forever.
Driven by a desire to understand cacao at its roots, not just as a product, but as a plant, a medicine, and a cultural treasure, we travelled to South America to connect directly with the source. Our mission was clear: to meet the land, the people, and the spirit behind the cacao we serve.
We spent weeks travelling through Peru’s lush highlands and remote lowlands, guided by intuition and the stories of those who walked this path before us. Eventually, our journey led us to the beating heart of the Amazon basin. After a 15-hour bus ride and a 6-hour canoe journey upriver, we arrived in one of the most remote and untouched parts of the rainforest - the ancestral land of the Ashaninka people.
The Ashaninka are one of the oldest Indigenous tribes in South America. They are not only stewards of the forest, but carriers of a deep and ancient wisdom that honours the interconnectedness of all life. For the Ashaninka, cacao is not simply a commodity - it is sacred. It is medicine. It is a living spirit that connects humans to the Earth, to each other, and to themselves.
In their culture, the Ashaninka live by Kametsa Asaika - “The Good Life.” These are eight guiding principles that form the foundation of their existence: harmony with nature, cultural preservation, food sovereignty, peace, health, education, sustainability, and land protection. It is a holistic worldview where every action is in service to future generations.
But their way of life is under threat. Encroaching deforestation, illegal mining, terrorism, and the narcotics trade are placing immense pressure on both the land and the people. In response, the Ashaninka are turning to cacao as a means of preserving their culture, sustaining their economy, and protecting their territory.
At Sacred Taste, we believe in reciprocity - that when we take from the Earth, we must give back. Our partnership with the Ashaninka is built on respect, transparency, and shared purpose. We source only the finest heirloom criollo cacao, grown using traditional, sustainable methods and harvested with care. This is not mass production - this is a living relationship.
We are proud to support the Ashaninka in their mission to protect their land and preserve their way of life. Every bag of Sacred Cacao helps fund their regenerative agricultural practices, protects Indigenous rainforest territory, and brings awareness to the sacredness of this plant and the people who hold its story.
